KERRIANNE ABBOTT BSc(Psych).,MA(Psych).,M(Psych).,MAPS.

Kerrianne Abbott is a Canberra-based Psychologist with over 25 years of professional experience supporting individuals through trauma, stress, and life transition. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from the Australian National University, a Master of Arts (Sport Psychology), and a Master of Psychology (Counselling and Family Therapy) from the University of Western Sydney. Her postgraduate research on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) was published in the Journal of Traumatic Stress in 2005.

Kerrianne began her career in sport psychology, working with athletes on performance enhancement and resilience. Over time, her work expanded into the psychological treatment of trauma and post-traumatic stress, where she found her enduring professional passion. For more than twenty years, she has operated in private practice, providing psychological care to adults, adolescents, and families across a wide range of emotional and behavioural concerns.

Kerrianne’s current clinical focus is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) - a highly effective, evidence-based therapy for trauma, anxiety, and other distressing experiences. She is a fully accredited EMDR practitioner through the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA), and regularly undertakes advanced professional development to ensure her work reflects the most current research and practice. EMDR assists the brain in reprocessing traumatic or disturbing memories so they can be integrated more adaptively, reducing emotional distress and enhancing psychological stability. Further information is available through EMDRAA’s client resources or the EMDR Institute.

Kerrianne’s therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practice. She draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Brief Solution-Focused approaches to help clients build resilience, restore emotional balance, and reconnect with their values and sense of purpose.

Kerrianne is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and its Counselling College, and a registered Medicare provider for psychological services. She believes recovery and growth are possible for everyone - and that with the right support, people can heal, integrate their experiences, and move forward with confidence and clarity.
